Discrete control is a branch of our controls engineering that utilizes digital computers to act as system controllers. Depending on the requirements, a Portland Engineering Discrete Control system can take the form of anything from a microcontroller to a standard desktop computer. The application of digital control can readily be understood in the use of feedback and because of their affordability they are useful pieces to control systems for several key reasons: they are inexpensive; they are flexible and easy to configure; they are scalable; they are adaptable and the parameters of the program can change with time; and they offer static operation i.e. they are much less prone to environmental conditions typically encountered by capacitors or inductors.
